Crypto casinos in Germany: what the law says
Germany licenses online slots under some of the tightest limits in Europe. Licensed sites keep balances in euros, so crypto casinos sit outside the system.

What the law says
The Interstate Treaty on Gambling 2021 took effect on 1 July 2021. The Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), based in Halle, licenses and supervises online operators nationwide.
The limits at licensed sites
- A basic stake limit of 1 euro per spin on online slots, with a minimum of five seconds per spin. Since July 2026 the GGL can permit higher stakes under conditions.
- A default deposit limit of 1,000 euros a month across all licensed operators combined, which can be raised only after affordability checks.
- OASIS, the national self exclusion system, checked by every licensed operator.
Where crypto fits
Payments must come from an account in the player’s own name at a regulated provider, and balances are held in euros. A casino taking crypto from players in Germany is not GGL licensed. The GGL publishes a whitelist of licensed operators.
What that means for you
Offshore crypto casinos advertise the absence of these limits as a feature. It also means no OASIS, no cross operator deposit limit and no German regulator behind your complaint. The GGL works with payment providers and internet providers to cut unlicensed sites off.
