What the law says
The Remote Gambling Act opened a licensed online market on 1 October 2021. The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) issues licences, sets the rules and fines operators that target Dutch players without one.
Where crypto fits
Licence holders may only use payment methods from regulated financial institutions, which in practice rules out crypto deposits. A casino accepting crypto from players in the Netherlands is operating without a KSA licence.
Protections you get at a licensed site
- Cruks, the national self exclusion register. Every licensed site must check it each time you log in.
- Deposit limits you set at sign up, with extra checks at higher amounts.
- A regulator you can report an operator to.
None of this applies at an offshore crypto casino. Cruks does not block it, and the KSA cannot recover your money.
