Crypto casinos in France: why there is no legal option

France does not license online casino games at all. Slots, roulette and blackjack online are illegal there, whatever the payment method.

What the law says

France licenses three kinds of online gambling: sports betting, horse race betting and poker. Online casino games are not among them. The Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) regulates the licensed market and acts against illegal sites.

A government proposal to legalise online casinos was put forward in October 2024 and withdrawn within days. At the time of writing no law has been adopted.

Where crypto fits

Every crypto casino that accepts players in France is unlicensed there. The ANJ can order illegal sites blocked without going to court, so addresses change often.

What that means for you

There is no licensed online casino to choose in France, which means there is no protected option. If you play at an offshore site and it refuses to pay, the ANJ cannot recover your money. Its public guidance is to avoid these sites entirely.
