What the law says

Law 13/2011 regulates online gambling in Spain. The Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) licenses operators and lists them publicly. Licensed sites use the .es domain.

Protections at a licensed site

  • RGIAJ, the national self exclusion register, checked by every licensed operator.
  • Identity verification before you can play.
  • Deposit limits, with new limits shared across operators introduced by royal decree in 2026.

Where crypto fits

Licensed operators hold player accounts in euros and use regulated, traceable payment methods, so they do not take crypto. A casino accepting crypto from players in Spain is not DGOJ licensed.

What that means for you

Check the DGOJ list before signing up. At an offshore crypto casino RGIAJ does not apply, the deposit limits do not apply and the DGOJ cannot settle a dispute for you.
